Vladimir Antoshenkov was born in Leningrad in 1933. He graduated from Architectural
Department of Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineering in 1957.
He began to study photography in 1974 and made his first series of photographs of
Leningrad. Participated in several exhibitions. First one-man show in the House of
Architects.
He returned to photography in 1986 and made several publications in magazines
(including «Soviet Photo»). He participated in All-Union Exhibition of Architectural
Photography, became a member of Leningrad Photo-Centre. In 1989 – 1990 he had oneman
show in Leningrad House of Architects and in Geographical Society, and also in
USA (Art Center of Nashua and Town Library of Amherst). In 1991 he had one-man
exhibitions in the Rotunda of Mariinsky Palace and in Smolny Cathedral. He
participated in the big exhibition «Petrsburg and Petersburgers» in Smolny Cathedral in
1992. He took part in the Festival of Art in Warwick (England), where he had one-man
show «Saint-Petersburg – my city».
In 1994 he had exhibitions in Berlin {Technical University) and in Petersburg (Museum
of Political History of Russia). Entered the Union of Artists-Photographers of Russia. In
1995 – 1996 he actively contributed to the magazine «Realter».
He participated in the big exhibition «Petersburg – the City on Waters» in Amsterdam
(1997) and had one-man show in Lappeenranta (Finland, 1997). He contributed to the
magazines «Land Property» and «Council of Town Planning». From 1997 till present
time he works constantly in the magazines «Three Arts» and «Design and Building».
In 2000 – 2004 he had seven one-man shows, including the exhibition in the Central
Exhibition Hall Manege in Moscow (as a Part of the exhibition «Architecture of Russia.
Results of the Millenium»), in the Moscow House of Photography («Masonry»), in the
gallery “Photosoyuz” (“Subjective Petersburg”) and in Peter and Paul Fortress («Poetics
of Saint-Petersburg»), in Delhi and Mumbai in India («Unique Petersburg»), and also
participated in several exhibitions (between others in Florida, USA) and competitions (in
particular, he received thrice the first prize in the competitions, organized by the
Museum of St.Petersburg History). In 2003 – 2005 the albums “Unserious Petersburg”,
“Something about Petersburg”, “Inimitable Petersburg”, the book “Poems and
Photographs” (co-author O. Gutsol) and the album “The Courtyards of Petersburg” of V.
Antoshenkov were published. In 2008 – 2013 appeared the albums “The life of sculpture
in the city”, “Saint-Petersburg architecture. The 20-
th century”, “The poetry of Petersburg”, “Plant life in the city”, “Saint-Petersburg
roofs”, “Wintry Petersburg” and ‘Artefacts”.
